Dreyer Sports Medicine Supports Fox Valley Marathon and Local Athletes

Friday, 20 May 2011 13:00
Jodi A. Pelegrin, D.O., A.T.C., Sports Medicine physician at Dreyer Medical Clinic, has been named Medical Director of the Fox Valley Marathon for a second year.  Dr. Pelegrin, the Associate Medical Director of Sports Medicine at Dreyer, is no stranger to covering large scale athletic events.  Her previous experiences include the Chicago and Twin Cities Marathons.  Aside from her detailed involvement with the inaugural Fox Valley Marathon last year, she also covers the West Aurora Blackhawk Stampede Cross Country Invitational, the Fox Valley Kickers 3 vs. 3 Soccer Tournament, and a number of other community sporting events.  Additionally, she is the team physician for West Aurora High School, and provides medical coverage for USA Volleyball.

Dr. Pelegrin’s involvement with the Fox Valley Marathon is a natural fit.  She will again provide medical oversight and planning for the entire event, coordinating over 40 medical team volunteers, which will include physicians, nurses, athletic trainers, and physical therapists from Dreyer, as well as volunteers from the community and other organizations.

The 2011 Fox Valley Marathon will be held Sunday, September 18 in St. Charles.  For more details, visit fv26.com.

Sports medicine is a branch of the healing arts profession which utilizes a holistic, comprehensive approach to the prevention, diagnosis, and management of sport and exercise-related injuries, disorders, dysfunctions and disease processes, according to the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine.  The term ‘athlete’ refers to an individual who is engaged in sport, exercise, or physical activity at the recreational, industrial, competitive, professional or elite level.

Athletes benefit from receiving sports medicine care from specialty-trained physicians who are focused on helping them maintain or return to their optimal level of healthy activity and performance.

The Dreyer Sports Medicine program includes both primary care and orthopaedic physicians who are board certified in sports medicine, orthopaedic specialty physicians, certified athletic trainers, sports-specific physical therapists, and coordination with other specialty and primary care departments within Dreyer.  Interested athletes should call Dreyer Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine at 630-264-8720.  Same-day appointments are reserved for athletes at Dreyer’s Highland and Fox Valley Villages locations in Aurora.
